With this information your coach and you will be able to set goals and consider choices for adopting a healthier lifestyle to improve your overall wellness. Your wellness coach stays up to date on current research and information which will aid you in sorting through the sea of information. With the right information, you and your coach may determine which lifestyle enhancement choices could be right for you.
What is Wellness?
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware and making conscious choices toward a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.
What does a Wellness Coach do?
A wellness coach starts with a wellness assessment. The assessment is then used to assess your wellness level in the seven dimensions of wellness. The seven dimensions of wellness are physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, occupational, and intellectual. The results will be analyzed and individual recommendations will be made to assist the individual in setting goals and considering choices for adopting a healthier lifestyle.
In order to have a high level of wellness, each dimension must be balanced. For example: a person could have a high level in wellness in all the dimensions of wellness except occupational. A low level of wellness in this area will flow into the other areas of life and can increase stress, putting a strain on your physical, emotional, and social being, and much more.
Many unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are common in our society and reflect directly upon our health. According to Healthy People 2010, the top 10 leading health indicators are: physical activity, overweight and obesity, tobacco use, substance abuse, responsible sexual behavior, mental health, injury and violence, environmental quality, immunization, and access to health care. These are lifestyle behaviors that can be changed to improve your health.

You want to live a long, healthy, productive life. In order to be your best in all stages of your life, your wellness dimensions must be balanced. If you feel depressed and are thinking about seeing your doctor for medication, you may want to first investigate what may be causing your depression.
